NCBI-Illinois
has been recognized throughout the Chicago region for its role in
delivering effective diversity training, helping individuals and groups
handle tough political and community issues, and for working in
collaboration with other community groups to eliminate the harmful
effects of institutionalized discrimination and mistreatment. This NCBI
Team has been recognized by the Chicago Tribune, The Star
Newspapers, The Naperville Sun and The Journal of Oak Park
& River Forest
for its leadership role in communities and organizations. In April
2002, NCBI Illinois received the “Fair Housing Achievement Award” from
the South Suburban Housing Center for its “contribution to improving
the social climate of the region.”
Over
750 participants in twenty-five workshops were asked if their
participation in the workshop would influence their understanding and
behavior in relationships with other people. The following
results
were reported:
Over
71% of participants responded positively to the statement "I will be
more likely to seek friendships with people from outside my group."
Over
88% of participants responded positively to the statement "I will be
more likely to notice the influence of stereotypes on my thoughts,
feelings and behavior."
Over
87% of participants responded that they "will be more likely to notice
the influence of stereotypes on the thoughts and behavior of others."
Over 87% of participants said
that they "will be more likely to look for and consider both
similarities and differences in the people they work with."
